Ok, so other than my parents, mine and Alex's love story is my absolute favorite love story of all time!!
I had a big, stalkerish, crush on Alex when I was in 8th grade. In fact, he had an office aid class where he would be the one to bring notes to students if they were getting checked out of school or had to go to the office or something.
So me being the crazy crush stalker I am, I would have my mom check me out of school during 6th period in hopes that he would be the one to bring me a note. There were two aids, so I had to hope that when I stalked my way out of class he would be the one to bring me my note.
When he finally brought my note to me one day...I guess I expected him to finally notice me, and fall madly in love, and then we would ride off into the sunset (or hallway) together hand in hand.
WELL that didn't happen. He handed me my note and walked 15 feet ahead of me back to the office. Dang.
Alex wasn't a jock or anything like that, but he definitely hung out with more popular kids. He rode BMX bikes, so he had a certain demeanor and attitude about him. Pretty sure thats why he was so cocky.
Me on the other hand, I was popular in my own group of friends. I stuck to the same 5 or 6 people who I rode the bus with, who were in the same social class as me (poor kids with personality), but I wasn't a super nerd. I didn't have the 'in' clothes or style, and you could tell I tried way too hard with my hair and makeup, but I had a pretty outgoing and charming personality. So pretty much everyone, except the preppy kids, knew me.
Alex got the point pretty quick that I was creeping him.
I would end up where he was waaayy more often than what could be considered 'coincidence'.
He fixed the situation by mooning me in front of everyone at lunch.
Yeah my crush on him disappeared in a hurry.
Stupid boy.
**2 years later in High School**
I was walking down the hall during my lunch with a friend when Alex popped his head out of his classroom door to make small talk with my friend. I was still kind of awkward, but I definitely had blossomed a little more by this time so I thought for sure he didn't remember me. I stood there while he exchanged "whats up's" with my friend, and then he spoke to me...
TO ME?! HOW RUDE!!
He asked me to look at a doodle he had drawn. I'm thinking no way he remembers me, so whatever. I looked at the doodle, it was funny. Just a bunch of random comics, pictures, and captions. I said I liked it, and he said "do you want it?" I said "...Sure...but you have to sign it." So he signed it and gave it to me.
I laughed as my friend and I walked away, telling my friend the crush I had on that fool when I was in 8th grade.
**Two Weeks Later**
Guess who shows up at my locker, pen in hand, asking me if I wanted to do something that weekend?? Alexander Freaking MacLean. The 13 year old me is freaking out, but the current 15 year old me is kind of annoyed. He seriously has the nerve to ask me out when he embarrassed me in front of everyone at lunch two years ago??
This kid has no idea I was the crazy-stalker-crush-girl.
My mom had a strict no dating until 16 rule. So I said I'd have to ask my mom, plus I was sick and going to the Dr that same day so whatever....here's my number.
Shaking like a leaf he wrote it down on his hand. So cute.
I didn't have guys lined up at my door or anything waiting to date me, but I had a few guys who had me on their radar, but I just wasn't interested because I knew my mom wouldn't let me date.
When I told my mom about him approaching me at my locker and how nervous he was, she actually felt bad for the poor, nerdy kid. So what does she do? Tells me I can go out with him.
Sweet! I really had no interest in dating him whatsoever, I was just happy to get out of the house with someone else my own age, OLDER even! Alex had a drivers license and a car.
I called Alex and told him we could go out on Saturday. He picks me up Saturday night in his little 1997 red ford ranger. It smelled like a mix between rockstar energy drinks, and strawberry in that truck. He was listening to an acoustic set of a band I had never heard of called Unwritten Law. I remember all the details of it so well!
After running a red light, and driving around town once or twice, we decided to go to Wingers. One of the only sit down restaurants in Vernal.
I had never been there before. So I asked him for a recommendation when ordering. He says to get the sticky chicken fingers, because the sauce is amazing on them. So I order them.
Yeah, they were the hottest thing on the menu. Remember how I had been sick and went to the Dr? Well, I had strep throat. So basically I didn't eat dinner that night hahaha! He felt horrible and offered to get me anything else I wanted. He was so cute. I liked him.
After the movie and a quick trip to the little local coffee shop Spoofs, he took me home. That night I wrote in my journal about what an amazing first date I just had with this kid named Alex.
Who knew??!!!
About 10 months later, I had moved in with him and his family when I was still just 16 because my mom moved away to Indiana, and I wanted to stay and finish school and be with my friends....JK I just wanted to be with Alex.
We moved to Salt Lake City in August 2006, and he proposed to me a month later at my first Bee's baseball game ever. We had our off and on's throughout this whole time, but always found our way back to each other.
We got married in 2009 where we played an acoustic version of Unwritten Law's 'Rest of my life' (from the same CD he was listening to on our first date) as we walked down the isle.
10 years later
We have the most wonderful life together. So many experiences we've shared with each other and be there for each other! We have something not a lot of people get the chance to have or experience. Growing up with your sweetheart is such a cool thing, but growing together with them is even better.
Now we get to experience a whole new chapter in our lives as we wait for the arrival of our first baby in January 2015. Life is so surreal.
I never ever expected such a beautiful life to come from that 8th grade crush, or that signed doodle. But I'm so glad it did.
I thank God every night for him and his love, and pray we never lose sight of us.
Forever starting now.

"Please don't take my sunshine away."
