You wanna talk about the most flawless birth you've ever seen? Well it was Frankie's delivery for sure!! To me anyway...compared to her brother!
My OBGYN had decided an induction would be okay for us on this pregnancy. When he brought it up in one of our appointments in Februrary...he said, "we're a little more flexible with induction on second pregnancies...so if you want, we can induce Monday the 19th, or the 20th, or 21st," my first thought was, DANG why cant we do the 22nd?? My parent's anniversary and my grandmothers birthday. But that was a Thursday, and I know Dr. Smith doesn't work on Thursdays... (unless its to deliver Cooper ;).. ) So obviously I jumped on the opportunity for Monday the 19th. I won't get into it on this post, because this is for Frankie, but I hate being pregnant. It's the worst for me and it's nothing short of absolute misery for me personally. SOOOO the 19th I'll take it!! Please! (I later learned that Dr. Smith was planning a spring break vacation around my due date, which explains the option for an early induction, LOL)

We dropped Cooper off with James at about 7am that morning. I will post another blog about that eventually because believe me, it was filled with a lot of emotion for this mama.
Cooper was excited to be with his Uncle James and cousins before they went to school, and had no problem saying, "bye mommy!" to me before we left.
I hadn't eaten, despite instruction from the staff at L&D the night before when they called me to confirm us coming in the morning. I was starving. Traffic was a bitch, of course, getting from Kearns to Sandy at morning rush hour traffic on a Monday. So I was all prepared to go into L&D on an empty stomach just ready to deliver this baby girl. Luckily, we had a couple minutes to spare and were able to stop at a 7-11 just down the street from the hospital and I got the most delicious doughnut ever and an apple juice. Hoping that would get me through until I could eat later in the afternoon after I delivered at like 2-3pm..(is what the Dr said to expect with our induction, a 2-3, maybe even 4pm delivery time..)
ALRIGHT...
Checked in. Dressed. IV's. Pitocin. Let's have a baby!!
I was only dilated to a four when I checked in, and even after about an hour of pitocin I was only a five. So it didn't seem like it was going to be moving very quickly, and I was hesitant getting the epidural too early because of my labor with Cooper how it dragged on and it wore off mid-labor and it was so painful waiting for the anesthesiologist to get there and hook me up again. I didn't wait, thank GOODNESS, because shit was about to get real in a hurry.
Epidural done. So at around 11:30am I was still at a five, so I told Alex to take this opportunity to go get some food since who knows how long I'll be stuck at five.
Answer? Not long.
Alex went to a nearby restaurant, and Legena and I just figured we'd be chillin' for the next couple hours until something happened.
At about noon I called the nurse to come check since I had some contractions that felt like I needed to push. She came in (her name was Jenny, and she was the best nurse ever besides my sissy of course) and checked me and said, "yep, time to push." WHAT? Wasn't I just at a FIVE? "you're at a ten, we'll text Dr. Smith and tell him to get back here so we can have a baby, text Alex and have him get back here ASAP.."
.....
.......
...............well that escalated quickly.
I text Alex, "Come back, she's ready," at 12:08pm. He replied, "Oh shit really?!" I had just text him saying they turned down my pitocin right before that, so he thought I was messing with him.
"yes really. Hurry."
"yes really. Hurry."
Luckily he was already on his way back and was parking when I text him, so sorry, no dramatic plot twist of him busting in the delivery room in the nick of time.
Side note...guess where Dr. Smith was? Skiing at Alta. Which is why he text the nurse and had her turn down my pitocin. Insert laugh/cry emoji here. He was able to see my contractions picking up on some app or something on his cell phone, and was on the lift when he text them to turn it down.
So he had to haul ass down the canyon in his Porche to get back since...Frankie was ready to enter the world sooner than he expected!
Everything went from 0-60 real quick. Before I knew it the little baby cart was getting rolled in, the tools and table appeared from what seemed out of no where, two new nurses showed up, gowns were getting thrown on the nurses, it was just crazy how quick it all came together. Weren't my sister and I just sitting here bull shitting in an empty room 15 minutes ago?! It was wild.
Smith got there around 12:30-12:35, came in and said "you'll have a baby I bet in the next 20 minutes or so. I'm going to go write up your prescription for after birth and do some paperwork, and when I get back we'll get her here." So the nurses helped me push during the contractions while he was out, and sure enough he came back around 1:00pm, and I think after about 4-5 final pushes with him, there she was...
1:07pm
She was SO tiny!! I was so prepared for another 8-9lb baby! Even Dr. Smith had told me to prepare for a big baby. So I was blown away with how small she seemed. Her little nose was so tiny. But Alex and I both immediately were floored by how much she looked like Cooper.
I held her in my arms, and the first thing I said to her was, "I'm so glad you made it!" And I just said that to her over and over again just smiling from ear to ear, smitten and grateful that she was here.
She was so beautiful. Her skin was so smooth, it wasn't super wrinkly or anything like she'd been soaking in amniotic fluid for nine months (haha), she was just perfect. I couldn't get over how small!!
And how GOOD I felt!! I seriously was like, that's it?! Expecting it to be this huge ordeal like Cooper's birth was! BUT NAY! This chick was like, I got you mom. And I was up wandering the halls in my regular clothes 7-8hrs after she was born.
Then one of the best moments of my life happened at around 5:30...Cooper arrived to the hospital, and met his baby sister. He was immediately in love with her. I'll never forget the moment he realized she was in the room and when he saw her, it was almost like he knew her. It was so beautiful. The photographer we had there doing photos captured that moment, and it's one of my favorite photos I'll ever have....
We are so in love with our Frankie. For a surprise baby that had my scared out of my mind, and crying for nine months thinking, "how am I going to do this??" I couldn't imagine her not being here or life without her. I didn't know how much I needed her, and the healing she's given my heart that has come with just her presence.
